25th Boat Captain's Luncheon

The Illinois & Michigan Canal National Heritage Area (IMCNHA) is a collection
of places and a community of people and organizations who cherish the stories,
history, buildings, and landscape of these places. This year and in 2022 we are
celebrating some of the Placekeepers, Storytellers, and Builders among us.

The following honorees will be celebrated at the luncheon this year:

Mike & Pat Shymanski and the Historic Pullman Foundation for their long-time commitment in seeing the opportunities for architectural renewal and storytelling on the south side of Chicago.

Mainstreet Lockport for their dedication since 1991 to preserve the historic character of downtown Lockport and ensure its economic future using the principles of the National Main Street Center.

Kathleen Farrell and Marsha Lega, artists and sisters for their commitment to Friends of Community Public Art, the education of artists, and public art in Joliet and throughout the IMCNHA.

Missey Moorman Schumacher, Mayor of Channahon for leading the Village’s commitment to the development of a trail system throughout the community and linking to the largest regional trail system and the I&M Canal State Trail.

Morris Downtown Development Partnership for their commitment of economic development through investing and promoting their historic canal downtown.

Ottawa Canal Association & City of Ottawa for their tenacity in working to get the downtown section of the I&M Canal restored with water and open for recreation.

Dan Bell, Superintendent of the I&M Canal State Trail for 29 years for his dedication to the stewardship of the National Landmark Illinois & Michigan Canal and its associated state parks.
